Help Us Fill 200 Backpacks with Healthy Snacks for Henderson County Youth
The TXU Energy Beat the Heat Program and the Henderson County HELP Center are teaming up for a Summertime Bash on Friday, June 13, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at The Legacy Center in Athens. Along with handing out more than 150 box fans, we plan to distribute over 200 backpacks filled with summer snacks to local youth — and we need your help.
Based on the 2023–2024 TEA E-Rate National School Lunch Program Eligibility data, nearly 54% of school-aged children in Henderson County qualify for free and reduced lunch — highlighting the reality of food insecurity in our community. During the school year, qualified students in the county received breakfast and lunch at no cost. But when summer begins, many families lose access to those consistent meals.
Our goal is to fill each backpack with three weeks’ worth of healthy snacks to help bridge that gap. We’re seeking sponsors and donors to help make that possible. If you or your organization would like to support this vital initiative, please contact the HELP Center at 903-675-4357 and ask for Amanda.
Together, we can HELP Henderson County youth thrive this summer!
